Trust & Safety

Safety

Training with someone you've just met means trust matters. Here's what we do, what we don't, and what we ask of you. Sweatty connects, you decide who you train with.

What we verify

  • Email. Every account confirms a working email address at signup.
  • Phone (SMS). A real, current mobile number is required before your first match. One number per account.
  • Photo liveness. A short selfie video proves you're the person in your profile photos. This gates the chat surface — nobody messages a match without passing it.
  • Recent activity. Accounts dormant for 90 days fall out of match results until they're re-verified.

What we don't do

Being straight with you matters more than sounding safer than we are.

  • No criminal background checks. We don't run DBS, ACRO, or equivalent jurisdictional checks. They're costly, slow, and miss most real risks.
  • No medical clearance. We don't verify anyone's fitness to exercise. That's between you and your doctor.
  • No guarantee. Sweatty cannot promise any partner's behaviour. We can promise a clear verification process, a fast block + report flow, and a real human reviewing every report.

What we ask of you

  • Meet in a public place for your first session. A commercial gym, a park, a climbing centre — somewhere with other people around. Pick up at the door, don't get into anyone's car.
  • Tell a friend where you're going. Share the location, the time, and the partner's name. It's the lowest-effort safety habit there is.
  • Trust your gut. If something feels off in chat, on the way, or in the first five minutes — leave. Block + report. You don't owe anyone a session.
  • Use Sweatty's chat. Don't move to WhatsApp or Instagram before the first session. If something goes wrong, we can only see what happened on Sweatty.

If something goes wrong

Report it. In-app: tap the partner's profile, choose Report, pick a reason. By email: safety@sweattyapp.com.

Expected response: within 24 hours, a real person from the Sweatty trust team. We read every report. We review chat logs, profile history, and any prior reports against the partner. If the report is credible we block the account immediately and you get a follow-up confirming what happened.

If a crime has been committed, contact your local police first. We cooperate fully with law-enforcement requests and will preserve account data on request from a verified investigating officer.

Common situations

They didn't show up

Wait 15 minutes, then leave. Open the session in the app and tap No-show. A no-show counts as a strike against the partner. Three strikes is a permanent ban.

You felt unsafe

End the session. You don't owe a polite goodbye. Walk to a populated area, message a friend, then block + report from the partner's profile. If you're in immediate danger, call your local emergency number first.

Harassment in chat or in person

Screenshot the messages (we keep them server-side, but having your own copy is sensible). Block + report. The first credible harassment report freezes the account pending review.

Injury during the session

Look after yourself first. Sweatty doesn't pay medical bills or insurance excesses — see Dispute Resolution for what we do and don't mediate. If a partner caused injury through reckless or aggressive behaviour, report it — that's a community-guideline issue, not just an accident.
